Title: The Ghost of the Family or Family Ghost
Warnings: If you don't know the X-wing books there might be a few spoilers. I wanted to use another quotation out of the book "The Krytos Trap" but I only have the book in German and couldn't find the original quote - so I used another.
Disclaimer: All characters belong to George Lucas.
Big thanks to

Have fun reading it and "Feedback is love!"

"Part of me thinks that we see them because we don’t truly believe they’re dead. Maybe the barrier that separates the living from the dead is permeable as long as there is someone who doesn’t accept death."
(Mirax Terrik to Wedge Antilles in "The Krytos Trap")

Wedge Antilles sat alone in one of the many coffee shops on Coruscant, didn’t notice his surroundings. The beverage before him was already cold but he drank it anyway.

Just as Wes Janson sat down next to him he woke up.

“10 credits for your thoughts”, said Wes and made a hand sign for the waitress. “Or are you so old that you have to sleep in the middle of the day?”

Wedge gave him half a grin. “I was just thinking about my life.”

“Ah”, said Wes and thanked the waitress for his beverage. “You have to sit down in a simulator and shoot a couple of TIEs.”

“And then meeting an Ewok again?” Wedge shook his head. “Was it so much fun running around naked that you will risk it again?”

“The Wraith had their fun”, said Wes grinning. “Especially Shalla seemed impressed.”

But Wedge had stopped listening to him. His gaze followed an older man, who went past the coffee shop.

“Wedge?” asked Wes worried.

“Excuse me”, said Wedge and stood up quickly. “I’m right back in a moment.”

Wedge tried to keep up with the man but in the crowd he lost him in a few seconds. Disappointed he stopped and wanted to go back as he saw the man again. He started running and didn’t pay any attention to whom or what he bumped into.
As he was near enough the man to touch him the man stopped and looked at Wedge, surprised.

“Can I help you?” the man asked.

Wedge noticed that he was mistaken and shocked his head. “I mistook you for somebody I knew. I’m sorry!”

“Never mind! This can happen to all of us, General Antilles.”

Wedge didn’t ask why the man knew his name. As the only survivor of the two Deathstars, hero of the Rebel alliance and the founder of the Rouge Squadron he was known everywhere.
He watched the man a few seconds and then he twitched as someone put a hand on his shoulder.

“You’re all right?”

Wes had followed him. His gaze was more worried than ever.

“Everything’s fine”, replied Wedge. “I only had a meeting with the ghost of the family.”

“I guess you only need a holiday”, Wes said. “You’re overworked.”

But Wedge shook his head again. “I just thought too much over the past. You know: this “What if”.”

“Heard too much Booster Terrik stories?”

Wedge laughed. “Exactly!”

“I’ve already paid our drinks, so we can go directly to headquarters.”

“Let’s go then”, said Wedge and followed his long time companion.

He just looked one more time over his shoulder to the old man and smiled. Maybe Wes was right and he was too old for a job as a fighter pilot. Like Admiral Ackbar said: “The war craft is an occupation from which one cannot withdraw too young!”
Wedge grinned crookedly. Maybe he was right about that! My entire life I fought as a pilot against the Empire. Maybe it’s time to think about a future with Iella.

Lovely fiction...i haven't read the books, im only a fan of the original trilogy. I don't think the new ones can compare. And they don't have Wedge in them! heehee

Thank you ^^
The new trilogy is.... not bad... but there are a lot's of mistakes in it and Wedge is missing - even when there is an 'Antilles'
